Robust semi-supervised least squares classification by implicit constraints

چکیده
We introduce the implicitly constrained least squares (ICLS) classifier, a novel semi-supervised version of the least squares classifier. This classifier minimizes the squared loss on the labeled data among the set of parameters implied by all possible labelings of the unlabeled data. Unlike other discriminative semisupervised methods, this approach does not introduce explicit additional assumptions into the objective function, but leverages implicit assumptions already present in the choice of the supervised least squares classifier. This method can be formulated as a quadratic programming problem and its solution can be found using a simple gradient descent procedure. We prove that, in a limited 1-dimensional setting, this approach never leads to performance worse than the supervised classifier. Experimental results show that also in the general multidimensional case performance improvements can be expected, both in terms of the squared loss that is intrinsic to the classifier, as well as in terms of the expected classification error.

متن کاملCoupling Semi-supervised Learning and Example Selection for Online Object Tracking
Training example collection is of great importance for discriminative trackers. Most existing algorithms use a sampling-and-labeling strategy, and treat the training example collection as a task that is independent of classifier learning. However, the examples collected directly by sampling are not intended to be useful for classifier learning. Updating the classifier with these examples might ...
متن کاملSemi-supervised Object Detector Learning from Minimal Labels
While traditional machine learning approaches to classification involve a substantial training phase with significant number of training examples, in a semi-supervised setting, the focus is on learning the trends in the data from a limited training set and simultaneously using the trends learned to label unlabeled data. This report focuses on a particular semi-supervised learning technique call...

متن کاملSemi-Supervised Hyperspectral Unmixing via the Weighted Lasso
In this paper a novel approach for semi-supervised hyperspectral unmixing is presented. First, it is shown that this problem inherently accepts a sparse solution. Then, based on this observation, an efficient l1 regularized least squares algorithm is proposed, in which the constraints that are naturally imposed to the problem, are suitably incorporated. Simulations results show that the propose...
